ALL AMERICAN HOMES BUILDS “LIVING ZERO HOME” FOR THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

Home Tour Showcases Practical Ways to Save Energy and Starts with Taste of Chicago

DECATUR, Ind. – All American Homes, LLC has just completed construction of the Living Zero Home for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) “Living Zero Home Tour.” The home will travel across the country to display practical and affordable ways people can save energy and reduce their utility bills.

Its first stop is the Taste of Chicago from July 1-5, 2009 and then on to 16 other major events including NASCAR races and selected major venues around the country concluding on November 22, 2009 at the Denver Zoo in Colorado. Admission to the home is FREE. To see a complete list of events and dates go to www.allamericanhomes.com/livingzero.

The DOE selected All American Homes® for the project because of its leadership role in building low to zero energy homes. The construction of the Smart Home: Green + Wired for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, its Solar Village® homes that are the most complete low to zero energy use homes in the industry and its construction of over 1 million square feet of LEED Silver compliant military barracks for the U.S. Army all contributed to making All American Homes a natural choice for the Living Zero Tour home.

One of the most exciting features of the home will be an all new whole house energy management and home monitoring system called the Smart Living System™. This high-tech feature, soon to be available in every All American Home, is designed to not only save money on utility bills while keeping homeowners more comfortable, but also alert homeowners to potential problems like water pipe leaks with an automatic phone call when a leak is detected.

“We are very excited to be a part of the Living Zero Home Tour and show the country all the ways an All American® home can save money,” said Rick Bedell, President of All American Homes. “Our Smart Living System is icing on the cake for homebuyers that want an affordable high-performance home with super low energy bills and one that helps protect their investment as well,” he concluded.

The home also features many other energy efficient and eco-friendly products available on All American homes:

  • Icynene® foam insulation that can reduce heating and cooling bills by as much as 50 percent
  • Solar panels to generate free electricity from the sun
  • Low flow plumbing fixtures to cut water usage (and save the energy it takes to heat it)
  • ENERGY STAR® light fixtures with compact fluorescent or LED lights to save energy
  • ENERGY STAR-rated appliances
  • Tankless water heaters
  • Bamboo floors
  • High-performance fiberglass windows
  • Zero energy use day lighting systems
  • Fiber cement siding
